13.11.2020 Just in time for this year’s Wochenende der Graphik (Graphic Arts Weekend), in which prints and drawings collections in Germany, Austria and Switzerland bring their hidden treasures into the spotlight, the Kupferstichkabinett is making available three online exhibitions in the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek.
Kupferstichkabinett
These Kabinett in der Galerie exhibitions are presentations that were on view at the museums in recent years and are now permanently available as virtual exhibitions online. Since 2009 the Kupferstichkabinett has been showing its Kabinett in der Galerie series in a permanent exhibition space at the Gemäldegalerie as well as in temporary displays (with longer intervals between them) at the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Alte Nationalgalerie.
The Kupferstichkabinett’s collection holdings are introduced in cyclical rotation and situated within current contexts. These can be related to current topics of interest as well as to parallel exhibition activities of the hosting museums. In addition to the showcased circulation of the Kupferstichkabinett’s rich collections at the named museums, the series also provides welcome opportunities to display diverse media together and to examine artistic processes in greater depth. Moreover, it is possible to trace and elucidate aspects related to the dissemination of the fine arts and other visual communications ‒ including the choice of media, cultural policy debates and religious messages of the times.
In collaboration with the Institut für Museumsforschung (Institute for Museum Research), Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, the largely unpublished presentations in the series will be gradually made available to a broader circle of interested viewers in the context of the online exhibitions via the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek. These media-based presentations also extend the limited durations of the exhibitions, because they are no longer dependent on protecting the exhibits.
Three exhibitions in the Kabinett in der Galerie series (in German) are currently available as online presentations in the DDBstudio of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek:
The series is expected to continue.
