Fifth European Day of Conservation-Restoration on 16 October 2022

Viewing art through the eyes of a conservator-restorer is a rare opportunity offered to interested visitors each year on the European Day of Conservation-Restoration. On 16 October 2022, the event with its various activities takes place for the fifth time. The conservator-restorers from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will also be providing exclusive insights into their demanding work on the Day of Conservation-Restoration.

Conservator-restorers generally work behind the scenes. They research the materials and production techniques of the artworks and are responsible for their preservation. On the European Day of Conservation-Restoration, interested visitors can observe conservator-restorers as they perform their specialised tasks at

• the Gemäldegalerie (Old Master Painting),
• the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Applied Arts),
• the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings),
• the Neue Nationalgalerie and
• the Musikinstrumentenmuseum (Museum of Musical Instruments).

A special programme with guided tours through the exhibitions, restoration workshops and storage facilities at the Kulturforum conveys new perspectives on the works and the museum as an institution: Events Offered by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin on the Fifth European Day of Conservation-Restorations on 16 October 2022.

Outlook: On the third Sunday in October each year, specialists offer insights into their working environments. The Sixth European Day of Conservation-Restoration will take place on 15 October 2023.
