Sprich mit mir! Die Sammlung befragen – Design Lab #7 as an Online Poster Exhibition and Reader

The Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) and the MA Art Education, Curatorial Studies programme at the Zurich University of the Arts present the online poster exhibition Sprich mit mir! Die Sammlung befragen (Talk to Me! Consulting the Collections) and accompanying Reader, offering a multiperspectival analysis of twelve objects from the museum collection. Originally carried out for an exhibition, the research undertaken for Design Lab #7 ultimately took the form of a Reader because of the Kunstgewerbemuseum’s closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning with the question, “What stories do the objects displayed in the permanent exhibition actually tell outside of their hegemonic museum interpretations?”, the six-member team selected twelve objects from the abundant collection and queried them from different perspectives. Their choices can be discovered in the interactive online exhibition. With the click of the mouse on the poster, visitors can explore an “entangled history of objects” revealing the complex interconnections between object, material, religion, politics, environment, consumption, taste, museum and design throughout the centuries.

The online poster exhibition begins here.
