14.06.2021 The online symposium ‟Times of Waste – Handling Matter” is taking place on 17 and 18 June. Its topic is waste materials. The symposium offers a discussion platform presenting a variety of approaches to the subject. It builds a bridge between theoretical studies and implementing a responsive but responsible, careful way of handling materiality in the sciences, arts and collections.
Kunstgewerbemuseum
The event has been conceived and curated by the Times of Waste research team, and realised in collaboration with the Matters of Activity cluster at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Decorative Arts Museum) in Berlin.
The programme includes various event formats – such as sound installations, impulse lectures, and movement workshops. In these sessions speakers examine design practices for sustainable uses of materials and resources, as well as methods to present transnational material research and make it accessible. One such method is museum collecting and exhibiting, which is exemplarily represented at the symposium through the Design-Lab series at the Kunstgewerbemuseum and its newest iteration, the Design Lab #8: Material Loops – Paths to a Recyclable Future.
The complete programme can be downloaded as a PDF (274 KB).
The symposium will be held in English on Zoom. Free participation; you can register here.
