On 10 June 2021 the Design Lab #8: Material Loops – Paths to a Circular Future exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) invite you to the digital opening. The Digital Reader for the exhibition premieres as well at the opening.

The linear economic system, in which materials are utilised according to the “take, make, waste” principle, is not sustainable – and yet it is the approach that has determined the state of our planet and increasingly its inhabitants for over seventy years. The circular economy offers a promising alternative, with material flows being interlinked to create a circular system in which products and materials find a new use at the end of their life cycle or can be recycled, reprocessed or redeployed in technical or biological cycles.

International Cooperation Project

In collaboration with the Hans Sauer Stiftung, the Design Lab #8: Material Loops – Paths to a Circular Future exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) presents pioneering design projects that reveal the potential of circular materials. The network of participants stretches from Berlin across Germany to Italy, to the circular city of Prato, which is represented as a guest at Design Lab #8.

Digital Opening on Thursday, 10 June 2021, from 5 to 6 pm

The Kunstgewerbemuseum and the Hans Sauer Foundation invite you to the opening of the exhibition, live online. On Thursday, 10 June 2021, from 5 to 6 pm, project partners and participating designers offer first impressions of the exhibition and its displays via Zoom. A video tour through the exhibition follows, with time for questions and discussion afterwards. For more information on how to participate, please visit the event page.

Material Loops – The Digital Reader

The Digital Reader for the exhibition premieres at the opening. The free German Reader can now be downloaded in advance from the Kunstgewerbemuseum website. The Reader reveals the importance of materials in the transformation to a circular economy on the basis of over thirty circular projects and excusive statements by renowned specialists in the materials field. The diverse exhibits illustrate that the issue of materials ultimately affects all areas of our lives, but above all our decisions as consumers.
