  • Curator of the furniture collection
  • In exhibitions and symposia, he has devoted himself to the most diverse facets of German-language furniture art, most recently the Madrid court furniture maker José Canops, who worked for the Spanish King Charles III (1759-1788) (2023/24).

  • His research is grounded in connoisseurship and focuses on the wider context of the furniture. This includes the description of the individual works of art and the understanding of the furniture types, the question of their function, material and production technique, and the appreciation of their special quality.

Vita

After working as a cabinetmaker and restorer, Achim Stiegel studied art history, history and Italian at the FU Berlin. Since 2001 he has worked at the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts as curator of the furniture collection and is a specialist in historical furniture art. At intervals, Stiegel works as a lecturer at the Institute for Art History at the Technical University of Berlin.
