With 300 film poster from twelve decades, the special exhibition The Big Screen: Film Posters of All Time has already delighted 20,000 visitors at the Berlin Kulturforum. In the exhibition’s closing month, the Kunstbibliothek (Art Library) is presenting a diverse programme of events focusing on cinema. Talks and tours offer new perspectives on the film poster; a two-day public symposium during the Berlinale film festival examines film posters as “images of power”; and families with children are invited to participate in tours and workshops. On the closing weekend, opening hours are extended until 8:00 pm.

All events are free of charge and can be visited without registration. An exhibition ticket is required for tours. Children and teenagers under the age of 18 are admitted without charge.

Stereotypes, ideologies, power dynamics – images on film posters often depict questionable situations. Which roles and values are being conveyed? Which thought patterns and prejudices are being reinforced? How do market constraints and moral standards influence their design? The two-day symposium, Film Posters – Images of Power?, explores these questions in eighteen 20-minute lectures. International experts take a critical look at the film poster from a current perspective.
