Kunstgewerbemuseum
Textile artist Sofie Dawo, born in Saarland in 1926, left behind a small but exceptionally significant oeuvre, which is presented here using representative examples. Her textile works are independent visual works of art, whose production processes are inscribed in the objects by their particular materials. Dawo intentionally calculated the effect of the unpredictable, recognising that it would provide “unexpected surprises”. Her textile experiments are free of any function or use and cannot be clearly assigned to art or craft categories – they stand on their own.
