Kunstbibliothek
The exhibition ‘Research in the Kunstbibliothek: The Painter Josef Block’, displayed in the foyer, presents objects from the collections of the Kunstbibliothek and from the Spangenberg private collection. Research in the holdings of the Kunstbibliothek allowed Klaus-Dieter Spangenberg to trace the painter Josef Block’s life (1863-1943) and work. The rediscovered artist of the Berlin and Munich Secession movements was also one of their founding members. At the turn of the century the German-Jewish artist actively took part in the Berlin art scene and was represented by the most important art dealers, such as Galerie Fritz Gurlitt, Kunstsalon Schulte, and Kunstsalon Paul Cassirer.
