Design Views Vol. X
Buki Akomolafe. FI AK FALE _ HIER UND DORT

31.10.2018 to 21.11.2018
Kunstgewerbemuseum

Berlin fashion designer Buki Akomolafe combines traditional handcraft with an aesthetic vision under the label bearing her name, with her collections melding androgynous, precise tailoring with striking wax prints. Particularly eye-catching are the elaborately quilted skirts and tops, which like the basics are produced entirely in her studio and a small manufactory in Berlin. Akomolafe’s fashions are made using only ecologically sustainable materials, such as organically grown cotton, hemp-silk and West African wax prints. She spent her early childhood in Nigeria in the care of her father, who runs an agricultural project there. Conserving the planet’s resources is just as important to her as creating a new awareness for fashion and materials.

Design Views is a new exhibtion series hosted by the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the International Design Zentrum Berlin.
