Can fashion – a phenomenon that is subjected to constant renewal – even be sustainable? Natascha von Hirschhausen deals with this question in her work and explores the limits of the feasible. Only natural plastic-free materials are used in the production of her collections – their origin and manufacturing are tested and transparent along the whole value-added chain. A special cutting technique developed by the designer herself allows her to reduce the material waste to less than one percent. All garments are manufactured locally and per order – in this way long transportation routes and overproduction can be avoided. For her outstanding dedication to the principles of sustainability Natascha von Hirschhausen was honoured with the German Federal Ecodesign Award in 2017.
Design Views is an exhibition series developed between Kunstgewerbemuseum and the International Design Center Berlin.
