With the project Design Impressionism, studio b severin focuses on glass in order to investigate effects of the industrial revolution on art. The window-glass used in 19th century Paris in the construction of buildings creates a special atmosphere that inspired impressionist painters in their approach to light. studio b severin has taken this observation and realised it as a series of objects made from traditionally produced rolled glass. The resulting works, a cuboid table, for example, are everyday objects that adopt the colours and forms of impressionist painting in a poetic way.
The studio was founded in 2013 by Birgit Severin, who now runs it together with her partner, Guillaume Neu-Rinaudo. Their works operate at the intersection of art, technology, craft and design.
Design Views is a new exhibition series featured by the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the Internationales Design Zentrum Berlin.
