Musical works by visual artists: Carsten Nicolai

The project 'syn chron' takes place in the context of the series 'Musical works by visual artists' which has been successfully organised since 1999 by the 'Friends of good music' in co-operation with the New National Gallery and varying partners.

The visual artist and musician Carsten Nicolai designed a crystalline architectural body, whose translucent synthetic skin simultaneously bears acoustic and visual events.

For this installation, Nicolai has composed electronic music which generates modulations of light projected by laser. The composition has been conceived for the entire running period of the installation, including daytime and night-time states as well as live shows. This mobile architecture is a prototype developed by the artist together with the architects Finn Geipel and Guilia Andi, LIN, and the engineer Werner Sobek.

The live shows on 3 March 2005 at 7.00, 8.00 and 9.00 p.m. are organised jointly with MaerzMusik 2005.
