18.01.2019 On 18 January 2019 the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, visited the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Kupferstichkabinett, where he was particularly impressed by drawings by Botticelli.

In a conversation with the Director of the Kupferstichkabinett, Dagmar Korbacher, the Italian President revealed that he was particularly impressed by Sandro Botticelli’s illustrations of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Every one of these drawings is a masterpiece, he said during the viewing, adding that the Kupferstichkabinett is preserving an important and impressive cultural treasure.
The President summed up his impressions in the guestbook: “I thank this important Berlin institution for showing me the wonderful drawings by Botticelli, which are inspired by the poetic genius of Dante Alighieri.”
