Selected Museums to Reopen on 16 March 2021

Alte Nationalgalerie

After being closed for several months due to the pandemic, on Tuesday 16 March 2021, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will reopen the Alte Nationalgalerie, the James-Simon-Galerie, the Neues Museum, the Pergamonmuseum and Pergamonmuseum. Das Panorama on the Museumsinsel Berlin, as well as the Museum Europäischer Kulturen at the museum precinct in Dahlem. Additional museums are set to follow on 1 April 2021. Time-slot tickets can only be booked online at: www.smb.museum/tickets

The exhibition The Germanic Tribes: Archaeological Perspectives, which was originally slated to run until 20 March 2021, will not reopen for technical reasons. It will be on display from 6 May 2021 at the LVR-Landesmuseum in Bonn.

Online Tickets

Until further notice, visits to the above-mentioned museums are only possible with a time slot ticket, which can only be booked online from Friday, 12 March 2021 onwards: www.smb.museum/tickets.

Only single tickets will be sold. The sale of location tickets as well as the Berlin Welcome Card and the Museumscard will be suspended.

Children under 18; persons accompanying people with severe disabilities; holders of annual tickets, press, ICOM or DMB cards; and members of groups that support the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin are requested to book a free time-slot online and to present the corresponding ID upon admission without being asked.

Annual Tickets

All annual tickets that have been affected by the closure of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (3 November 2020 to 15 March 2021) will be extended to make up for the closure of the museums. The extension is automatic, there is no need to get a new ticket. The extended annual tickets can be used from 16 March 2021 at the reopened museums.

Number of visitors

In accordance with the current pandemic-related regulations enforced by the State of Berlin, visitors numbers are to be kept to a maximum of 1 visitor per 40 square metres for all spaces within the museum, to ensure that social distancing guidelines can be observed.

Health and Safety Measures

In order to protect visitors and to ensure rapid contact-tracing, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is obliged to document the presence of visitors in the museums. Contact details are therefore recorded upon entry.

Visitors (aged 6 and older) and all staff must wear a medical mask, maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 metres from other people and follow the designated course.

For the time being no events will take place at the museums. Tour bookings and group registrations cannot be accepted until further notice.

Shops & Cafés

The shops in the museums are open Tuesday to Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm. Cafés and other catering services in the above-mentioned museums will remain closed until further notice.#

Other Museum Openings

All other institutions of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin are scheduled to reopen on Thursday, 1 April 2021, in accordance with the current regulations in force in Berlin.
