In Conversation: Thomas Demand

A Series Funded by Deutsche Bank

Date:
Sat 01.03.2025 3:00 PM
Location:
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
Offer:
Artist talk / Adults

Thomas Demand’s works move between sculpture and photography, illusion and likeness, fiction and reality: press photos or iconic images from high and pop culture are modelled by the artist out of paper and cardboard; the large-format scenes are photographed and the model is then destroyed. As part of the European Month of Photography Berlin, we talk to the artist about his working methods, the selection of his motifs and which images currently fascinate him.

Thomas Demand’s works have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, including The Israel Museum, Jerusalem (2023); Fondation Azzedine Alaïa, Paris (2023); Jeu de Paume, Paris (2023); Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto (2022); Centro Botín, Santander (2021); Fondazione Prada, Venice (2017).

The event is part of the EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography.

In the series In Conversation. A series funded by Deutsche Bank, an artist talks about their work on the first Saturday of every month at 3 pm.
