New partnership between Nationalgalerie and 50Hertz

24.05.2017
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

From 19 July to 13 August 2017 RUNDGANG 50HERTZ, the first in a series of exhibitions, will go on show, featuring four graduates from art academies in Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig.

Last autumn, the transmission system operator 50Hertz moved into its new corporate headquarters in the heart of Berlin, next door to the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. This offered the opportunity for a cooperation between the company and the Nationalgalerie - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin designed to promote young contemporary artists.

Over the next three years selected thesis projects by graduates from art academies in Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig – cities which all lie in the 50Hertz grid – will be exhibited each summer. The venue of the annual four-week shows is a flexible exhibition architecture designed by Florian Stirnemann (raumlaborberlin), housed in the transparent and sustainable building that is 50Hertz’s company headquarters.

Following some research at the art schools, Matilda Felix, the curator of this exhibition series, submitted a pre-selection of twenty final-year projects to an expert jury comprised of the artist Rosa Barba, Katharina Herrmann (50Hertz – Chief Human Resources Officer), Joachim Jäger (Head of Neue Nationalgalerie), and Gabriele Knapstein (Head of Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin). They selected four young artists whose final works will go on show in July: Emma Adler (b. 1980 in Besch, graduated as ‘Meisterschülerin’ from Kunsthochschule Weissensee in 2015), Asana Fujikawa (b. 1981 in Tokyo, graduated as ‘Master of Fine Arts’ from HFBK Hamburg in 2016), Susanne Keichel (b. 1981 in Dresden, graduated as ‘Meisterschülerin’ from HGB Leipzig in 2016), and Cosima zu Knyphausen (b. 1988 in Houston, Texas, graduated from HGB Leipzig in 2017).

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication.
