KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM: A New Tour of Hamburger Bahnhof’s Outdoor Sculpture

As part of the project “Stell die Verbindung her” (Make the Connection), teens have developed a multimedia guide to the sculptures on display outside Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. The gratis multimedia guides can be borrowed from the ticket counter at the museum.

Where are the outdoor artworks at Hamburger Bahnhof displayed? What is art anyway? What thoughts come to mind about the works, and what information emerges as a result? Using these questions as a springboard, secondary school students at the Gabriele-von-Bülow-Gymnasium have developed a multimedia guide summarising works of art outside Hamburger Bahnhof into an entertaining walk. The works are part of the permanent exhibition. They can be viewed in the courtyard and at the back of the building. Supported by the art educators Renée and Thomas Rapedius, the young authors have written and recorded engaging narratives on outdoor sculptures by Bruce Naumann, Dan Flavin, John Knight, Georg Baselitz, Elmgreen / Dragset, Tom Fecht, Urs Fischer and on the building itself.

The project Link It Up is part of the collaboration KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM between the Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and Berliner Leben – a Gewobag foundation.

Multimedia Guide Information

The tour takes approximately 45 minutes. Guide devices are available at the Hamburger Bahnhof ticket counter. The multimedia guide and earphones are disinfected after each use by our staff.

KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM

The Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Stiftung Berliner Leben – a foundation of the Gewobag housing association – have been working together successfully since 2014. KIEZ MEETS MUSEUM is a continuation of the collaboration that began in 2016. Four projects for children, teenagers and young adults are taking place each year until 2022.
