On Thursday 6 February 2014, Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, and Michael Eissenhauer, Director-General of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, signed a formal endowment agreement with Egidio Marzona, art collector and donor. The collector has transferred ownership to the Foundation of some 372 major works from his collection which have been on permanent loan at two of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s venues - the Nationalgalerie and Kupferstichkabinett - since 2002.

Egidio Marzona started collecting contemporary art from various international art movements in the late 1960s. Thanks to his unique connoisseurship, skill, and contacts in the art world, Marzona has succeeded in creating one of the world’s most important collections of Concept, Minimal, and Land Art, and Arte Povera. His collection contains definitive works of the 1970s and 1960s by artists such as Daniel Buren, Giulio Paolini, Jan Dibbets, Hamish Fulton, Richard Long, Garry Kuehn, Mel Bochner, Charlotte Posenenske, to name but a few.

The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is delighted that Egidio Marzona now has decided to permanently hand over the 372 works in this loan to the Foundation.

The Marzona Collection is featured in an exhibition series that was launched in January, entitled 'A-Z. The Marzona Collection’, the first part of which is currently on show at the Hamburger Bahnhof.
