Information on Loans from Hamburger Bahnhof

Loan requests for national and international exhibitions must be submitted to Hamburger Bahnhof (preferably by email) at the earliest possible date. They must, however, be submitted at least twelve months before the beginning of the planned loan period in order to ensure timely processing and, if approved, subsequent loan, as the procedure has to be coordinated with the different departments at Hamburger Bahnhof as well as the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

In the case of a loan, the conditions are finalized by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in a German-language only loan agreement. Loan agreements from borrowers will not be accepted.

Furthermore, loans have to be insured through the policy of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Exceptions are state liabilities, if accepted by the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Therefore, please refrain from sending us your loan agreement along with your loan request.

In order to reach a decision regarding a potential loan, Hamburger Bahnhof requires a curatorial explanation as to why the work is important for your exhibition, a facility report of the exhibition space in which the requested loan should be presented, as well as a presentation concept for the requested work if applicable. Without this information, the loan request cannot be processed.

Loan requests will be decided and answered within approximately four months. We kindly ask you to refrain from any inquiries regarding the request before this period has expired. Thank you for your understanding.
