MUSEUM, IV, 2020 — The Programme Magazine for the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin is Available!

The magazine MUSEUM for the fourth quarter (October, November, December) is now available free of charge in all of the reopened Staatliche Museen zu Berlin venues. It can be read online and downloaded at www.smb.museum/museumszeitung.

The programme magazine provides information about current exhibitions and interesting topics from the museums, for instance, insights into the work of museum staff. The magazine appears quarterly and is published in collaboration with the newspaper DerTagesspiegel. The current edition includes the following subjects:

Love, Death and Passion: Belgian Symbolism

The exhibition Decadence and Dark Dreams: Belgian Symbolism had to be postponed because of the the coronavirus pandemic. Now the spectacular show is on view at the Alte Nationalgalerie, where it reveals fascinating links to the present.

What Does . . . Actually Do?

For instance, Matthias Harder, curator of the Helmut Newton Foundation? In 2003 the renowned photographer Helmut Newton founded the eponymous foundation, which is now based at the Museum für Fotografie (Museum of Photography). As director and senior curator, Matthias Harder has a lot to do, from planning exhibitions to selecting and editing images for publications.
