Just in time for Easter, Sounding Images – Audiovisual Tours through Music and Art History is the latest result of the successful, ongoing collaboration between the Gemäldegalerie and the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin. From March 20th, the Gemäldegalerie and the RIAS Kammerchor invite the public to come along on a collectively developed audio tour to explore the Passion of Christ.
Sounding Images gives visitors to the Gemäldegalerie the opportunity to embark on a journey that combines music and visual art to discover the Passion of Christ. Experts from the worlds of art and music have created a tour that directs visitors’ eyes and ears towards surprising visual and aural details; alongside art-historical commentary, as they explore the space, visitors can also hear spiritual music performed by the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin and chosen to complement specific paintings.
Twelve paintings are discussed in German and English, including works by Hieronymus Bosch, Jan van Eyck, Giovanni Bellini and Giotto di Bondone. The accompanying music includes pieces by Johannes Sebastian Bach, Thomas Tallis and Anton Bruckner.
The audio tour is available both on the free listening devices provided on-site at the Gemäldegalerie and online at www.klingende-bilder.de/en. The tour is a continuation of the successful collaboration surrounding the story of Christmas that has been on offer since the end of 2023.
A collaboration between the Gemäldegalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin and Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
