The EVA Berlin conference (Electronic Media and Visual Arts) is an annual discussion forum for electronic documentation and visualization technologies in the field of cultural heritage applications. The 25th EVA Berlin conference "Digital Twins: Cultural Heritage - Materiality - Virtuality" will be held from 7 to 9 November 2018 in the Kunstgewerbemuseum at the Kulturforum.
"Digital Twins" are regarded as a key concept in the process of digital transformation that Museums, Archives and Libraries are jointly engaged in. The Digital Twin creates a parallel representation of real world culture in the virtual world experience. It covers a variety of usage scenarios. Visualization, algorithmic networking and translocal accessibility are most popular application domains. As digital tools they support documentation and restoration, as information carriers they modulate new approaches to cultural heritage. Material properties and dimensions of the original collection objects can be assigned to the 2- and 3-dimensional digital models as precisely as the patina of historical contexts and functions. With regard to e-installations or streaming services, the digital twin gives duration to the performative arts in the virtual space or makes the concert a unique experience in the digital concert hall.
The 25th EVA conference in Berlin bridges between material culture and virtual representation. The concept of "Digital Twins", transferred into the field of Cultural Heritage, is currently changing our practices of curating, scholarly documentation and communication. Digital Twins provide broader access to the collections and allow for innovative narration and visualization concepts.
The conference will present current positions and practical applications on these topics in the GLAM-institutions. Particular procedures, innovative products and cooperation projects will be issued at the poster session and expo.
The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz and Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) Optical Sensor Systems will be glad to welcome you.
