Gemäldegalerie
Beginning in fall of 2021, a new lighting system specially designed for the venue has been installed at the Gemäldegalerie (Old Master Paintings). The work was completed on schedule in mid-September 2023.
The refurbishment measure serves to safeguard the works conservationally, foster ecological sustainability, and, last but not least, improve the visual impression of the gallery aesthetically. The collection’s presentation has been throroughly optimised by reducing illumination from the skylights, harmonising ambient lighting and placing lighting accents precisely on individual works.
The first partial closure began in October 2021. Following the successful completion of the work in the fourth and final section under refurbishment, visitors to the Gemäldegalerie can now also experience 13th–16th century Italian paintings in a new light.
The lighting refurbishment was a major undertaking and could only be achieved through the enormous efforts of all those involved. We are delighted that this important step for our museum has been successfully carried out in such outstanding quality. I am particularly grateful to Adolf Würth and his company for their fantastic support.
Dagmar Hirschfelder, director of the Gemäldegalerie
The modernisation of the lighting system was made possible thanks to a generous financial grant from the Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG.
