Measures for the Digitisation and Visualisation of Object-Related Collection Data (MDVOS)

Measures for the Digitisation and Visualisation of Object-Related Collection Data (MDVOS) was a project organised by the Stiftung Humboldt Forum (SHF) together with the partner institutions of the Humboldt Forum: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU), Stiftung Stadtmuseum, and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz. As part of the project, all partners digitised parts of their collections and made them accessible through a new web portal of the SHF.

The focus of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin project was on improving access to the collections of the Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Asian Art Museum). To enhance public participation in the collections, digitisation workflows were improved and almost 50,000 objects from the collections of the two museums were placed online: some 8,700 on the SHF’s new web portal and around 40,400 on the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin collections portal.
