Forschungscampus Dahlem
On 18 and 19 May 2026, the Ethnologisches Museum Berlin, in cooperation with the German International Ethnographic Film Festival (GIEFF e. V.), invites everybody to the Ethno-Film Days Slices of Life (SoL) at the Forschungscampus Dahlem (Dahlem Research Campus, FCD). In the presence of filmmakers from Nepal, Congo, Sudan, Fiji/USA, Grenada/Denmark, Brazil/Germany and Nigeria/UK, eight film works from four continents and three films presenting current collaborative projects of the Ethnologisches Museum will be screened and discussed.
The overarching theme of the film festival, “Restitution, provenance and decolonial approaches in transcultural collaboration”, is reflected both in the selection of films and in the accompanying programme – audience discussions/Q&As, a moderated panel discussion, and a book presentation. The ethnographic films address questions concerning strategies of dealing with tangible and intangible cultural heritage. They approach the subject from multiple perspectives and vary in their formats, approaches and cultural references.
The films are shown in their original language with English subtitles. The panel discussion will be held in English.
The event concludes in the evening with the presentation of the book Shared Histories: Collaboration in Ethnographic Film, which emerged from the film series of the same name at the FCD.
