During the visit in Berlin of the president of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov from 25 to 27 November 2024, the Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) was given 50 objects by Kyrgyz First Lady Aigul Zhaparova. The official presentation of the objects takes place on 21 May 2025, after which they will be put on display at the Humboldt Forum as part of the Ethnologisches Museum’s permanent exhibition “Arts and Crafts in Central Asia” until further notice.

The contemporary collection of everyday objects and souvenirs complements the Ethnologisches Museum’s collection of Kyrgyz artefacts from the late 19th century. The objects show continuities and changes in both the material culture and society of Kyrgyzstan over the last 120 years.

Public Presentation

On Wednesday, 21 May 2025, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic will officially present the objects to the Ethnologisches Museum. The presentation ceremony is public and takes place at 1:30 pm in Room 306 with Mrs Ainura Tursunbaeva, Counsellor of the Embassy, and Mrs Aigul Tekebaeva, wife of the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Exhibited Objects

A selection of the objects will subsequently be on display until further notice as part of the Ethnologisches Museum’s permanent exhibition Arts and Crafts in Central Asia in the Humboldt Forum (Rooms 306 and 305, 3rd upper floor).
