Freunde des Ethnologischen Museums e. V.

The 'Friends of the Ethnologisches Museum' is a non-profit association established in 1999. In recent years, the number of its members has steadily grown to its current figure of 240. Through a variety of activities, the Friends supports the Ethnologisches Museum in its mission and its many projects.

In a relatively short space of time the Friends has acquired several valuable objects on behalf of the Ethnologisches Museum. Above all, the Friends strives to raise public awareness of the museum of which it is both proud and immensely fond, and is active in preparations for the Humboldt Forum. Once completed, the Humboldt Forum at Schlossplatz in the very centre of Berlin will provide a new home for the Ethnologisches Museum, an exciting and challenging prospect, not just for the museum itself, but also for its Friends.

In this, the Friends forges an important link between the general public (in particular as regards cultural appreciation), the interested museum audience, and the museum’s work. The society is driven by the conviction that in today’s world (and that of the future), the private commitment of active citizens is absolutely essential in supplementing the role of the state in promoting art and culture.

Membership of the Friends grants people a much closer insight into the behind-the-scenes activities of the museum through the host of events on offer. In addition, the Friends offers people interested in the cultures of the world to meet like-minded people, share ideas with them, and get involved in various areas across the museum.
