Institutions and Collections on Site

The Dahlem museum complex is home to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s non-European and ethnographic collections, with their unique ethnographic artefacts and artistic treasures: the Ethnologisches Museum and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst. The ethnographic and Asian art collectionsare is on display in the Humboldt Forum at the new Berlin Palace, directly opposite the Museumsinsel Berlin, striking a synergetic counterpoint to its exhibitions on the art of the Occidental world.

The Museum Europäischer Kulturen completes the present triad of museums in Dahlem. It is dedicated to European cultural history and everyday culture. Plans are being drawn up for the museum to relocate to the Kulturforum, where it will form an enriching complement to the galleries and museums focusing on European art and design.

The Insititut für Museumsforschung works to support the international museum community. It carries out research with and on museums, develops new formats and collects data about the museum landscape in Germany.
