Research Campus, Museum, Library: What’s Planned for the Dahlem Museum Site?

The Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Asian Art Museum), Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, have been closed since early January 2017, while the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK, Museum of European Cultures) has remained in Dahlem. What will happen to this museum location that has existed for 100 years?

In the spring of 2017 the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) presented initial plans for its continued use. The building complex is to continue to be used as a research campus with a museum, library, think tank space and archives, as well as an event and conference venue aimed at encouraging “a public understanding of science”.

rbb Inforadio and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz asked:

• How concrete are these plans? Which ideas from external sources will be incorporated?
• Will this make the museums’ daily work more visible – and to whom?
• Last but not least: Which impulses for local urban development can Berlin’s southwest expect?
