Investigation and Documentation of Objects of Unknown Ownership (so-called „Fremdbesitz“) in the Antikensammlung

This three-year research project is centred around the investigation and documentation of objects of unknown ownership (so-called Fremdbesitz) in the Antikensammlung (collection of antiquities) of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Fremdbesitz is a term used for objects that do not belong to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin but whose provenance is uncertain. The project also looked into the provenance of the antiquities from Carinhall (Hermann Göring’s collection) from the holdings of the Federal Republic of Germany. Upon completion of the project, a publication was released as part of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s “Fremdbesitz” catalogue series, documenting the findings of the work.
