Museumsinsel Berlin
It’s the second time this summer that the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin are hosting a special action day inviting children, young adults and families to discover the museums on Berlin’s Museum Island. The motto of this Family Day special event is “time”.
From noon to 4 pm Outdoor workshops will take place, exhibition talks at the museums will bring together objects from a variety of epochs, while dedicating themselves to motifs about time and zeitgeist or experimenting with the staying power and longevity of works of art. Special musical events, snacks and drinks, and a game of museum Bingo round out the diverse programme. The Colonnade Courtyard will transform into a hub of a large festival dedicated to families.
Participation in programme events is free of charge. Admission for children and young adults under the age of 19 is free at the participating museums and they may be accompanied by up to two adults, who will also receive free admission. Please note, however, that the special exhibition Wanderlust. Von Caspar David Friedrich bis Auguste Renoir at the Alte Nationalgalerie is not included.

The Family Day special event is part of the “Connections” education project. Throughout summer 2018 the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin have used this umbrella project to invite visitors to explore the diversity of the collections housed on Berlin’s Museum Island. The goal is to allow a wide audience to share in developments taking place on Museum Island as well as for its future neighbour, the Humboldt Forum.
“Connections” is supported by the Kuratorium Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Board of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation).
