Callout for Contributions to the Exhibition “Re-United – An Exhibition Featuring Your Museum Memories”

07.09.2021
Humboldt Forum

With the 30th anniversary of the reunification of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (1992) approaching, a callout is being launched. The memories and stories of museum-goers will be presented as part of an outdoor exhibition in  late summer 2022.

For over 40 years, Berlin was home to “twin museums”, with extensive collections in the East and the West of the city. In some cases, the collections even bore the same names. As a result of wartime relocations and the political division of the city in the wake of the Second World War, Berlin’s museums were also divided up. While Germany itself was reunited in 1990, the formal reunification of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin did not take place until two years later.

30 Years Re-United: Staatliche Museen zu Berlin

To mark the 30th anniversary of this event, a cross-institutional project team consisting of staff from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz is developing a participatory exhibition to be held at various locations throughout the city (scheduled to open in late summer 2022). The focus will be on museum-goers’ personal stories and memories of this eventful time around 1992.
