The exhibition gives a first comprehensive view of the fledgling graphic design scene in China and Hong Kong, which has developed over the last twenty years and is drawing increasing international attention. These works combine international visual languages with traditional calligraphic culture, creating their own form of Chinese modernism. The exhibition includes over 150 posters and books from around 50 designers from across China. A comprehensive publication, designed by Jianping He, the exhibition's initiator, is due for release to coincide with the show. The exhibition first went on display at the Folkwang Museum in Essen.
