The 'Chinese cabinet' at the Friedenstein Castle in Gotha as a guest at the Museum of East Asian Art

08.04.2005 to 06.11.2005

In co-operation with the Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha

Among the time-honoured collections of the Friedenstein Castle in Gotha are extensive East Asian Kunstkammer objects. These include items of high artistic and cultural-historical quality, dating back to the 17th century.

For the first time about 50 of these treasures are on display at the Museum for East Asian Art. They include porcelain and earthenware of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as an exquisite collection of Taoist and Buddhist figures made of Steatite, dating back to the 17th century.

The exhibition also presents a precious album painted in watercolours on paper, created around 1800 in Canton.
