06.12.2024 to 11.05.2025
Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart

The Hamburger Bahnhof is dedicating a major retrospective to the Turkish painter and opera singer Semiha Berksoy (1910–2004) in the east wing of the museum. Berksoy, a leading soprano in Berlin in the 1930s, had to return to Istanbul in 1939 after the outbreak of the Second World War. This exhibition is Berksoy’s first retrospective in Germany, and covers more than six decades of her artistic production. The artworks are displayed in a way that draws direct connections with her career as an international opera star, in order to showcase the versatility of this unique artist.
