Seen By #4: Expositions

29.05.2015 to 02.08.2015
Museum für Fotografie

Under the auspices of a collaboration between the Kunstbibliothek and Berlin's Universität der Künste (UdK), the series Seen By invites guest curators to exhibit UdK student work in the Museum für Fotografie.

The fourth part of the exhibition series addresses presentation itself. Under the title EXPOSITIONS, the Museum für Fotografie will feature works that emphasise the intersection of art, display, and the institution of the museum. On the one hand, the exhibition directs our attention towards the hybrid status that photography and other reproducible media occupy within the context of temporary exhibitions. These forms of media can serve as exhibition content, but can also function as a means of distribution, documentation, and design.

On the other hand, the works in SEEN BY also make us aware of the criteria and devices of framing and placement that shape an array of images and objects into an exhibition. In doing so, the exhibited works transcend their presentation. They consciously set their curation into relation with everyday modes of display and concealment that determine our economy of attention outside of institutional settings. The exhibition engages with the topic of EXPOSITIONS in the most comprehensive sense of the term: presentation and demonstration, explanation and comparison, visualisation and illumination.

Featuring works by Jonas Maria Droste, Family Filter, Eva Gerth, Jonathan Jung & Michel Wagenschütz, Lennart Krauss, Dierk Saathoff, and Karin Salathé.

Curated by Franziska Brons
