Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
In October 2021, Sandra Mujinga received the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2021 award, which comprises an exhibition and an accompanying catalogue. The artist is currently developing a new video installation for the Historic Hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart , titled I Build My Skin With Rocks.
The central figure of the work is a fantastic hybrid being, whose appearance is informed by Mujinga’s interest in the worldbuilding techniques of science fiction as well as research into the survival strategies of animals, including both physical mutations and changes in behaviour that seek to offer protection against an increasingly threatening human presence in their habitats.
The exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive publication published by Distanz Verlag with contributions by academics from different disciplines who offer multiple readings of Sandra Mujinga’s practice.
The exhibition is made possible by the Freunde der Nationalgalerie and supported by BMW.
A special exhibition of the Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
