PREIS DER NATIONALGALERIE FÜR JUNGE FILMKUNST 2013
19.9.13 - 12.1.14
In order to promote the exchange between cinema and the visual arts, the Preisder NationalgaleriefürjungeFilmkunst is being awarded since 2011. The recipients are young filmmakers whose works are characterized by experimental and artistically provocative approaches.
Initial point is the observation that the aesthetic of art film and the aesthetic of film art have tended to increasingly converge. With the exception of festivals, however, there are virtually no screening venues for the artistic dimension of film art. The prize will be awarded jointly by the Verein der Freunde der Nationalgalerie (Association of Friends of the Nationalgalerie) and the Deutsche Filmakademiee.V. (German Film Academy).
EXCERPT FROM THE JURY'S STATEMENT
The recipient of the Preisder NationalgaleriefürjungeFilmkunst 2013 (Prize for Young Film Artists 2013) will be the Film "Reality 2.0" by Victor Orozco Ramirez.
Ramírez' film impressively interweaves various subjects: the comparison of the relatively serene Germany from the perspective of the foreign, the cultural fascination of the iconography of death in Mexico, and the aestheticization of violence in the media. With hand-drawn animation and the technique of rotoscoping, the horrific scenes are defamiliarized, so that the director subverts voyeurism and the spectacle of violence promoted by the Internet. With surreal and poetic moments, the film is primarily a reflection on memory and real or mediated reality. Ramírez thus finds a rich visual language for his striking, carefully developed narrative.
