Architectural treatises are the most important sources for the research of the development of ornament, its terminology, idea and content - for it is architecture which has provided the visual vocabulary for ornament from ancient times to the Renaissance and beyond, and it is in architecture that it finds its primary application. The exhibition "Ornament and Architecture" presents a number of original treatises on architecture and the theory of ornament from the ornamental prints collection of the Art Library (Kunstbibliothek). It intends to provide an insight into the central terms and concepts of architectural ornament as derived from architectural and ornamental theories, and their influence on building practice.
