The Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts (Museum of the 20th Century) will be built at the Kulturforum according to plans by the Swiss architectural firm of Herzog & de Meuron.

In the future the Nationalgalerie’s collections of 20th century art will be exhibited in this new structure and at the neighbouring Neue Nationalgalerie. These venues will also display works from the Kupferstichkabinett and Kunstbibliothek, as well as the Marx Collection and the Ulla and Heiner Pietzsch Collection.

A planning team under the direction of the architects has been working out the details of the design together with the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin since February 2018. Completion of the preliminary designs in summer 2018 marked the conclusion of the first stage of the planning process. The revised plans and two models are currently on display in the foyer at the Kulturforum.
