The draftswoman Nanne Meyer (born 1953 in Hamburg) has received the renowned Hannah-Höch-Preis of the State of Berlin for her artistic life’s work. Since 1993 she has lived in Berlin, where she is a professor at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee.
The presentation, developed together with the artist, unites over 120 works, thereby offering a comprehensive insight into her rich graphic cosmos. The exhibition shows linear works, but also (surprisingly) painted ones, and works on paper developed by means of a collage. The starting point for Meyer’s works is often her own observations, which can be of totally unremarkable things found in our world, but also complex landscapes and spatial experiences. Her ideas and drawing processes can be inspired by items she encounters, such as office material, atlases, and postcards. This means that groups of works are formed around common themes over time. Her momentary character is essential for many of her drawings, which show her special playful/creative spirit and take the fleeting nature of all appearances - and life itself - into account.
