Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart
[ materialistin ]presents sculptures and site-specific installations at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, which engage with social and cultural-political questions. The group exhibition of eight sculptors working in Leipzig – Laura Eckert, Enne Haehnle, Elisabeth Howey, Lucy König, Agnes Lammert, Wibke Rahn, Theresa Rothe, and Sophie Uchman – highlights new forms of collective practice and solidarity. It is a signal that reaches far beyond Hamburger Bahnhof in this anniversary year.
[ materialistin ]is a group of women artists from Leipzig whose work and activities focus on the broader field of sculpture. The artists work with steel, stone, plaster, and concrete, plant fibers and renewable materials, wax, and clay. They produce sculptural objects as well as site-specific installations. The group takes a stand on feminist, social and cultural-political issues: it acts in solidarity and is non-hierarchically organized. The members counter the physical, economic and logistical challenges in the field of sculpture by sharing their experience, tools, contacts and networks. In addition, the cross-generational structure is a special feature in the art world.
Accompanying the exhibition is an edition of the Hamburger Bahnhof catalogue series, published by Silvana Editoriale Milano.
The exhibition is curated by Sam Bardaouil, Director of Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart.
The exhibition is part of the 30 Years Hamburger Bahnhof anniversary programme. In 2026, Hamburger Bahnhof celebrates its 30th anniversary with a programme that spans from the history of the site to the future: eight special exhibitions, a new collection presentation, as well as performances and concerts, carry the museum far into the urban space. The highlight is the anniversary weekend from 13 to15 November 2026, featuring an international conference on the future of contemporary collection museums, with the building open continuously for 30 hours.
The exhibition is made possible by the Hamburger Bahnhof International Companions e. V.
