Dahlem
The Humboldt Lab Dahlem is helping the Ethnologisches Museum and the Museum für Asiatische Kunst to explore ideas for the new home being developed for them: the Humboldt-Forum. Visitors to the Dahlem Museums can catch up with recent progress if they visit the Probebühne 6. Alongside Musik hören (Hear Music)display, which is still on view, two new exhibition projects share the spotlight: Objektbiografien (Object Biographies) and Verzauberung (Enchantment). The impassive exteriors of objects in the Ethnologisches Museum conceal exciting biographies. Often unknown, sometimes problematic, these stories of collecting, travelling, storing, sorting, categorising and exhibiting are the theme of Objektbiografien.
Museums tend to distance visitors from the objects they display. Verzauberung experiments with immersion, participation and synesthetic perception as means of creating a form of presentation which will overcome this distance. If you step into the Platform's 'enchanted space', your senses and perceptions will be enveloped by the beauty of the East African Swahili Coast.
Sundays on the hour between 13:00 and 17:00 - short tours, free with entrance ticket.
Area ticket: DAHLEM: €8, concessions €4.
