Dialogue of Lines – Peace Through Script
Calligraphy From Haji Noor Deen Mi Guangjiang

27.09.2025 to 21.12.2025
Forschungscampus Dahlem

As a special highlight of the 5th Muslim Cultural Week, the exhibition presents the unique works of Haji Noor Deen, who was born in 1963 in the Chinese province of Shandong and belongs to the Hui minority, a Muslim population group with a deeply rooted cultural history in China.

In his works, two of the oldest and most complex calligraphic traditions in the world merge: The flowing elegance of the Arabic script combines with the formal rigour and harmony of Chinese calligraphy. These works are created in a meditative process, each sign imbued with spirituality, discipline and artistic sensitivity. Decades of study in China, Egypt and Turkey are behind the flowing forms, written with apparent ease. The bold and unique combination of both traditions is an absolute hallmark of Haji Noor Deen.

The exhibition not only shows the artistic mastery of both writing systems, but also invites visitors to re-examine intercultural dialogue through the lens of art. Dialogue of Lines opens a space in which religion, culture and aesthetics enter into a silent, respectful exchange.

With its interdisciplinary and transparent research approach, the Forschungscampus Dahlem (Dahlem Research Campus) fosters precisely those encounters that bring together different forms of knowledge and cultural perspectives. It sees itself as an open forum for science, art and society and, with its diverse institutions, offers the ideal framework for comprehensively researching and making visible topics such as religious diversity, cultural understanding and the role of writing as a means of communication.

his exhibition bridges the gap between traditional art and contemporary research, going far beyond the classical concept of an exhibition and inviting visitors to engage in a reflective exchange.
