In the context of the Forum Expanded program of the Berlinale, 63 International Filmfestival Berlin, the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwartskunst - Berlin will be showing from 6.2.-24.2.2013 the installation CC6 COKE'S HEAD SOUP by Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980).

The work being exhibited is part of COSMOCOCA PROGRAMA IN PROGRESS which was created in New York in 1973 by Helio Oiticica in collaboration with filmmaker Neville d'Almeida. The COSMOCOCA series consist of 9 multimedia installations (CC1-CC9), of which the first 6 were realized. CC6 COKE'S HEAD SOUP was planned and realized in collaboration with photographer Thomas Valentin in September 1973 in New York. For these works, slides are projected within specially conceived environments and are accompanied by original soundtracks. To produce the photographs for the installations, Oiticica appropriated himself of various references from popular culture, Rock music and his own cultural background and estranged the images by drawing on them with cocaine.
CC6 COKE'S HEAD SOUP shows Mick Jagger's face on the advertisement of the then recently released album "Goat's Head Soup" published in Rolling Stone magazine. The face on the grainy newspaper print appears to be gradually merging with the coke into the medium's surface. The soundtrack specially made for this installation combines everyday noises such as the sound of a typewriter or an ambulance passing by, with the Rolling Stones-song "Sister Morphine".

The created environments for the COSMOCOCAS, equipped with mattresses, pillows or hammocks, invite the viewer to take an active role, creating his or her individual perspective while moving and positioning him or herself freely in the given situation in the space.
CC6 COKE'S HEAD SOUP shows a consolidation of Oiticica's and d'Almeida's original ideas and techniques. A central aspect of this work also includes Oiticica's concept of the 'quasi-cinemas', which questions the usage of the cinematic image in the visual arts and expands the viewers' perspective linked to the reception of film and sound.

The installation is shown in the Aktionsraum of Hamburger Bahnhof. It can be accessed through the museum restaurant. Admission is free.
