The year 2014 marks the hundredth anniversary of the First World War's outbreak. On this occasion, the five branches of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation - the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the Geheimes Staatsarchiv, the Ibero-Amerikanische Institut, and the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung - are presenting numerous exhibitions and events on the "original catastrophe" of the 20th century and the preceding years of artistic and technological change that heralded the modern era.
