The exhibition presents Chinese paintings and textiles from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1912) featuring images of children and flowers. Children and flowers symbolize spring, growth, and happiness. There is even a happy ending to the story of the weeping boy on a piece of silk embroidery from the 19th century. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an important new acquisition: a large silk tapestry (Chinese: kesi) bearing a lotus and phoenix pattern and dating from the early Ming Dynasty, 14th/15th century.
