Museum für Fotografie

An exhibition by the Museum for Photography and the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, with the support of the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and Cartier

From Cairo to Rio, from Shanghai to Dubai, from Addis Ababa to New York - from twelve of the world's metropoles the French photographer and filmmaker Raymond Depardon brought back twelve films and a great many photographs. He spent only a short time in each city, in order to document his first impressions in unspoiled form. The cities he chose were all in a state of upheaval and were therefore receptive for his candid gaze. Depardon loves to lose himself in foreign cities and to entrust himself to the flow of passers-by in the lively streets. There he took photos and made films in colour - all new to him - which documented the everyday life of the people he saw. The films are being shown simultaneously in a large installation in the ruinous Kaisersaal of the Museum for Photography. Approximately 300 photographs are being shown in the adjacent exhibition room.
