In 2025/2026, the Bauhaus in Dessau will celebrate its 100th anniversary under the motto “To the substance”. The focus of the anniversary will be on materiality in the building, technical and cultural history of the Bauhaus up to the present day. To kick off the anniversary year, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation will be visiting the Neue Nationalgalerie on the weekend of 13 to 15 June 2025 to give a first taste of the program. The architect of the Neue Nationalgalerie, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the third and last director of the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin from 1930-1933, before emigrating to the United States in 1938.
During the weekend, a pop-up presentation by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation on the theme of “An die Substanz. Bauhaus Dessau 100” will be on display for the first time. This will travel to other Bauhaus locations in Germany in the following months.
On Saturday afternoon from 3 to 7 pm, a free program open to the public will be offered in the glass hall and sculpture garden of the Neue Nationalgalerie. This includes an interactive workshop on the Bauhaus as well as keynote speeches and discussions on dealing with modern architectural icons and the current potential of natural materials in the construction industry.
A cooperation project between the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and the Neue Nationalgalerie, Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz, with the kind support of the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Culture of the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the Representation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt to the Federal Government.
